Nutritional Supplements

Summary: We believe in minimizing how many nutritional supplements you're taking while maximizing the benefits. It's important to invest in quality, but by minimizing quantity, you can keep on budget. We recommend one supplement for the entire population, and at least one green supplement for those not eating enough greens and raw foods. These are designed to provide all of the essential nutrients for supporting the body.

After that, we recommend supplements based on specific needs, such as serious immune support or the only weight loss product we think safe and highly effective, as it actually helps the body to work as it's meant to.

Why Supplement?

There are several reasons for supplementing today, partly because of nutrient depletion in our food (which is why we all need to supplement to some degree), partly because most of us don't eat well enough, and partly because of the toxic world we live in. I'd like to go through each of these very briefly to show why everyone should supplement and why some should supplement more than others. Then we'll look at the basic nutritional needs of the body so that you can understand why we recommend the supplements that we do.

1) First of all, it doesn't matter how well you're eating, our soils have much lower levels of minerals today than they did 50 years ago. I took a while to come on board with this idea, because I thought it was propaganda for selling more supplements. But then I found that farmers have to supplement their livestock for this very reason. For evidence of soil depletion, click here.

Nutrient levels in soil vary from place to place, but because this is the trend of depletion, I believe everyone needs a good multi-mineral at least.

2) Some people eat a lot of raw foods, including all those good fruits and veggies you hear so much about. But most of us don't. These are so important to good health because they supply us with enzymes, vitamins and minerals (though we still need to supplement minerals, as mentioned), fiber, amino acids, fatty acids, and basically all the essentials we really need for good health. If we're not eating enough greens, we need to supplement them if we want our bodies working as well as possible.

3) Let's face it: the world we're living in today is pretty toxic. I'm not just talking about airborn toxins. Every day we're reading about more junk in our water supply (pharmaceuticals, rocket fuel, etc.), which affects our food too. And unless we're eating organic foods -- whose standards may not be monitored well enough -- we're chewing toxins (herbicides, pesticides, etc.) every day. And then there's the SPEED at which we're living, which adds an enormous amount of unhealthy stress. This means we really need to optimize our antioxidant defense system to control oxidative stress. But there's more to that than eating more blueberries, and I'll explain more below.

What Our Bodies Need

Let me very briefly go over some of the basic nutrients we need to get from food and supplements to keep the body running optimally.

Enzymes

These are a kind of protein that begin and speed up most of the chemical processes in the body. Without them, life as we know it couldn't exist. There are metabolic and digestive enzymes. We usually supplement the latter, and these are available abundantly in raw foods. Two enzymes that are key to our internal defense system are SOD and catalase.

Amino Acids

These are the building blocks of all proteins, including enzymes. A key protein to our internal defense and detox system is glutathione (made of three amino acids), which is the body's most abundant antioxidant.

Fatty Acids

These are the building blocks of all fats in the body. Of course healthy fats are essential to us, despite what we often hear about avoiding fat. The only two that the human body cannot manufacture are called "Essential Fatty Acids," and these include linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linoleic acid (ALA). Certain plant oils are excellent sources for these.

With the right enzymes present, we can convert LA and ALA into omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. We can get omega-3s from fish and krill oils as well, and these help to satisfy our need for essential fatty acids.

The right balance of fatty acids is necessary for our immune system as well as a healthy heart and brain, but this balance has largely gotten out of whack with the standard American diet. Consuming more omega-3s (or ALA as a precursor) can help to bring that back into balance and offer a wide range of benefits.

Vitamins & Minerals

Both work with enzymes to accomplish various functions throughout the body. Vitamin D can be synthesized by the body with adequate exposure to sunshine, but most of these and all minerals need to be consumed. All are important at their own specific levels. Synthetic versions (as those in your drug-store variety supplements) should never be consumed. The more they come straight from food (or food state supplements), the better. The vitamin-like substance CoQ10 is another key element to our internal defense system.

Probiotics

These are friendly microbes that help us to keep "unfriendly" microbes in check and help to optimize our digestive system and minimize issues like candida overgrowth. Like antioxidants, these are coming into nutritional vogue, so you need to be a little careful about paying more for something that's just thrown in a few probiotics for marketing purposes.

Antioxidants

Perhaps the most popular item in nutrition today (thanks to marketing), antioxidants reduce the oxidative stress that's not only part of every day living, but that also builds up due to toxins present throughout our lives. Antioxidant importance needs to be kept in context with other nutrients, but they are essential for keeping us well, as oxidative stress can underlie just about every disease we know of.

While many foods -- i.e., blueberries, pomegranates, acai, mangosteen, green tea, red wine, and cacao (made into dark chocolate) -- provide us with valuable antioxidants, all food-based antioxidants (including vitamins C and E) require the body's internal defense system to provide antioxidant support. The body's own system is the key, and is simply supplemented with these others. This is why it's more important to maintain that system than to gorge oneself on high-antioxidant foods.

Recommended Supplements

Our goal is to keep you on budget by recommending a minimal supplement protocol while covering all of your needs with the highest quality in nutrients. With that in mind, here are our recommended supplements:

For Everyone -- Max N-Fuze

Everyone needs to supplement with a multi-mineral, and we think it wise to go with a multi-vitamineral that supports all of our vitamin and mineral needs. Until recently, we recommended food state supplements, as these are seen as near-identical to food in the body. We still think this a wonderful option, but are currently recommending a product based on phenomenal science and with incredible clinical results.*

The product's name is Max N-Fuze, and to begin, it uses the latest in nanotechnology to provide near-total and near-instant bioavailability* of its full range of food-based* vitamins and minerals. This technology basically provides the nutrients in nanoparticles (super-small) embedded in micro water clusters so that the nutrients are absorbed as easily as water. So you can be sure that your body is actually absorbing and using what it needs.

But it gets even more exciting. This futuristic delivery system is combined with a product that has gone through clinical trials, proving its ability to just about eliminate unhealthy oxidative stress.** It does this by dramatically boosting the body's SOD and catalase levels -- 2 key enzymes in the body's natural defense system against oxidative stress, which you'll remember can be a prime factor in just about every known disease.

Again, it doesn't matter how well you're eating. Some supplementation is important. And I don't care what you eat -- you've got oxidative stress. We all do. But this product was shown in one case to lower the oxidative stress of a 78-year-old man to the levels typical of a 20-year-old. And similar results were typical in the clinical trials. I believe this product has set a new standard for the supplement industry.

This product is sold, incidentally, through a network marketing distribution system. But true to the products sold by this company, its results are so proven* that it's well-worth the investment regardless of whether you're interested in the financial opportunity. In fact, most of my clients take one or more products from this company without ever becoming distributors. That's because the products work so well.

Also, you can get the wholesale cost -- same as any distributor -- without ever joining. Just sign up as a Preferred Customer on "Autoship" (automatic monthly shipment) and get the discount rate. Cancelling is easy if you ever need to, but my experience so far has been very positive with this company and its products and imagine using them for life.

* Because this product is brand new as of this writing, I do not yet have the details on exactly what nutrients are included, nor in what amounts. I do know that it at least includes vitamins A-D, certain minerals, and herbs as well. I have been told that the testing results are very good, but have not seen these results for myself yet. I do understand that the nutrients are all food-based.

** The boosting of SOD and catalase come from the conjunction of this product with one that was previously on the market by itself and was clinically studied in great detail.

For Those Not Getting Their Greens

Even with the above supplement, you're still missing out if you're not eating enough greens and raw foods. So we think it's important to supplement with quality greens. This is how you're going to get amino acids; essential fatty acids; enzymes; some level of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants; and sometimes even probiotics.

We like several of the products out there. The DailyFoods® Organic Greens from MegaFood may do the best job of providing a solid variety in a single product. Having said that, we think the best probiotic green may be Living Foods' gluten-free FermPlus™. And for a tremendous boost in essential fatty acids and antioxidant support, we like SalbaRX®. (This is a superior cousin to more well-known superfood, chia. It also incorporates maca root for more vitality and endurance.) We sell FermPlus and SalbaRX in our web store.

Critical Antioxidant Support (Internal Defense System)

If you're supplementing with our recommended greens, you're probably already getting a good deal of antioxidant support from food. There's no need to go and buy expensive drinks or foods marketed toward this purpose only. Some of your diet likely provides more of this support as well.

All nutritional antioxidants are limited, however, in the types of oxidation they can address (which is why variety is important). They also require the body's own antioxidant system to get the job done, and for certain people, we feel that this system is important to support as well.

Our recommended multi, N-Fuze, already supports this system by measurably and substantially boosting SOD and catalase levels. This is enough support for much of the population. However, for those with depleted immune systems, low energy levels, or problematic toxin levels (including heavy metals), we highly recommend supplementing the body's glutathione levels.

As explained on PubMed, a national database of biomedical articles:

Glutathione plays important roles in antioxidant defense, nutrient metabolism, and regulation of cellular events. … Glutathione deficiency contributes to oxidative stress, which plays a key role in aging and the pathogenesis of many diseases (including kwashiorkor, seizure, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, HIV, AIDS, cancer, heart attack, stroke, and diabetes). New knowledge of the nutritional regulation of GSH metabolism is critical for the development of effective strategies to improve health and to treat these diseases.

Oral glutathione, however, has been clinically shown to be essentially useless; and injections are only minimally useful, since glutathione cannot enter into the cells themselves. It must be manufactured inside them. (And it’s manufactured inside all of the body’s cells if the necessary components are available.)

Thus, we recommend MaxGXL®, which has been proven effective in a two-month, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to boost intracellular glutathione levels by nearly 300%. It does so by providing the building blocks of glutathione, along with other nutrients that support the process of manufacturing and recycling glutathione in the cells.

It was also shown in this study to raise DHEA and IGF-1 levels by 46% and 40.8%. Normally these fall as we age, indicating a rising biological age.

And finally, it was shown to lower Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) by 37%. This is a major marker of cellular inflammation.

Not only is cellular inflammation implicated in most disease processes but, as you may know, it can be a prime element in conditions like joint pain, which I was suffering with to the point that I had a hard time exercising. Because of FDA regulations, I cannot share my results in writing, but I welcome you to call me at 248-210-4510 if you'd like to hear about how this product seems to have allowed me to get back to thorough exercising without pain.

So for those looking for health support in a variety of ways, I highly recommend MaxGXL. It is sold by the same company that sells Max N-Fuze, so it again uses a network marketing distribution system. But again it can be purchased at wholesale rates when bought on Autoship if you prefer not to become a distributor.
